Join us for a weekend celebrating the rich Victorian heritage of the Old Park Carnegie Library in North Belfast through creativity, craft, and culture.
Join South African poet Nandi Jola, now based in Belfast, for a talk exploring the global legacy of Carnegie libraries and their role in expanding access to education and knowledge.
Funded by philanthropist Andrew Carnegie, Carnegie libraries were established across the world in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Drawing on examples from Belfast and South Africa, this talk reflects on how these libraries shaped literacy, learning, and cultural life in very different communities, and considers their continuing importance as spaces of knowledge, creativity, and connection.
