The South Asian Dance Academy programme engaged local people across school and community settings and educated them as to the meaning and purpose of Kathak storytelling through workshops activities.
Supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund, a number of professional dancers across Northern Ireland learnt Kathak dance from professional trainers from Foundation for Indian Performing Arts in London. These newly trained dancers then went on to facilitate a number of Kathak workshops and cultural programmes across Northern Ireland. The academy now operates as one of ArtsEkta’s key social enterprise projects.
“An exceptional project that brought a fusion of the dance, movement, history and culture of South Asia, to the people of Northern Ireland.”
