The Hershel Print Lab

The Herschel Print Lab at The Old Museum Building

Step into the world of 19th-century photographic innovation at The Herschel Print Lab. Inspired by Victorian design elements—like delicate ferns, ornate tracery, and decorative railings—this hands-on workshop invites participants to explore the 1840 contact printing process pioneered by Sir John Herschel.

Using light-sensitive ferrous cyanide, you’ll create striking blue-toned prints, the very technique that gave rise to the iconic architectural blueprint. Blending art, science, and cultural history, this immersive experience offers a unique window into the intersection of natural history and design.

Ready to make your mark in cyanotype? Join us and print the past into the present.

Part of the Shared Roots programme delivered through the Belfast PEACEPLUS Local Action Plan by ArtsEkta, Cairde na Cille and Kabosh Theatre Company.

PEACEPLUS is managed by the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB) and represents a funding partnership between the European Union, the Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, the Government of Ireland and the Northern Ireland Executive.
