Kali

Kali is a large-scale outdoor interdisciplinary performance created through a collaboration between ArtsEkta and Fidget Feet Aerial Dance Theatre. Inspired by the Hindu goddess Kali, the work explores themes of transformation, feminine power, destruction and renewal through a fusion of aerial dance, Indian classical movement, live music and spectacle performance.

Blending contemporary circus techniques with South Asian dance traditions, the production creates a powerful visual experience where public space becomes a ritual performance environment. Performers move between ground and air, combining choreography, storytelling and physical theatre to create an immersive experience for audiences.

Drawing from the symbolism of Kali as a force of both destruction and regeneration, the performance reflects on cycles of change, resilience and collective strength. The project highlights ArtsEkta’s ongoing commitment to intercultural collaboration and presenting culturally diverse work in public spaces.

The work combines:

  • Aerial choreography and vertical dance
  • Indian classical and contemporary dance forms
  • Live percussion and soundscape
  • Fire and outdoor spectacle elements
  • Visual storytelling rooted in mythology

Kali is designed as a flexible outdoor production suitable for festivals and public events, and can be presented in both daytime and nighttime formats. The performance typically runs for approximately 35 minutes and is designed to engage diverse audiences in accessible public settings

This show has been made possible with funding from the Shared Island Creative Ireland Fund and Clare County Council
