Keeper of the Gate: Rosettes & Key Charms Workshop

Step into the story of the Good Shepherd Gate Lodge and explore the many lives, journeys, and traditions that shape a place.

In this hands-on workshop, you’ll create a Victorian-inspired rosette and key charm, using ribbons, beads, vintage-style keys, and decorative details. Inspired by the Gate Lodge as a threshold space, your piece will reflect ideas of home, movement, and belonging.

Belfast has always been a city of journeys — from people moving from countryside to city in the Victorian era, to the many cultures and communities that call it home today. Through making, we’ll explore how symbols of home and protection appear across different cultures — from keys and textiles to adornment and keepsakes.

Rosettes, ribbons, and charms have long been used across cultures to mark identity, celebration, and connection. In this workshop, you’ll create your own piece that blends personal story with shared heritage.

Vintage High Tea Style Snacks included.

Shared Roots is part of the From Multiculturalism to Interculturalism led by ArtsEkta, Kabosh and Cairde na Cille under the Belfast Local Community Action Plan, supported by PEACEPLUS, a programme managed by the Special EU Programmes Body.
