Teaming up outdoor arts experts, Walk the Plank, Spellbound took its inspiration from one of the great ancient epics of India called Ramayana.
It is a story of love, loyalty and friendship, told through shadow puppetry and Bharatanatyam traditional dance, performed behind a giant screen, and punctuated by fire and pyrotechnics.
The show played out to thousands of people on a warm summers night to officially open the Belfast Mela 2013. We worked with local dancers and community participants to bring this darkly romantic tale to life in a stunning new way.
“I think this show was amazing, it’s storytelling in a completely original way and something that absolutely everyone can get involved in. The opportunity for local people to invest in and explore cultures, it’s just fantastic, and well done to everyone involved.”
